Most men in the paintings from the Early Phase wear turbans. These turbans were made of cloth and were probably very long. It was wound around the head. At the top of the head, hair as well the turban seem to be wound to create a crest.

Kings are shown wearing crowns with gems and jewels. Triangular crests often form the body of the crown.

Kings and princes also wear jewelled head-bands with pearl festoons and pendants.

Crowns made of mutiple jewelled strips are also common.

A Bhiksu is shown wearing a cap with ear flaps.

Indra is depicted wearing a particular Kirīṭa or crown with rectangular front and semi-circular projection.

There are numerous depictions of conical caps worn mostly by foreigners .

Some of these caps even have streamers.
