The National Gallery of Modern Art, Bengaluru was set up in the premises of the Manikyavelu Mansion at 49 Palace Road, Bangalore and opened to the public on 18th February, 2009. The collection of NGMA mainly comprises of paintings, sculptures, graphic prints and photography in India which showcase the historical development of modern art in India. The display includes Indian miniatures and works of colonial artists, the Bengal School and post-independence artists which led to the birth of modern and postmodern art of today. In addition to the permanent display of paintings and sculptures, this NGMA also showcases national and international exhibitions regularly. Equipped with an auditorium, an art reference public library, a cafeteria, and a museum shop-cum-facilitation block, the NGMA Bengaluru looks ahead to becoming a hub of art activities and a major cultural centre at Bengaluru.
Activities of the Organization:
* Regular gallery walks for the general public on Wednesday and Saturday.
* Friday Films: screening films on art-related documentary, education and culture every week.
* Outreach programs: workshops/talks/panel discussion organized in conjunction with the exhibition on display, commemorative days and collaborative programs by eminent speakers.
* Guided tour/briefing for school children and college children visit.
* Guided tour and art activity for underprivileged and special children.
