A bowed instrument of wood with skin covered resonator. Stem and peg box are hollowed out at the reverse; Three main twisted steel strings, played with a bow. Used by the ‘Pradhan’ community for vocal accompaniment to songs and dance sequences.

CHIKARA in Rajasthan

Material: Parchment, wood, steel

Arched resonator covered with skin, finger board and peg box made from a single block of wood. Three steel strings. A bird motif on top of the peg box. Played with a bow. Used by the ‘Meo’ community of Alwar district of Rajasthan for vocal accompaniment.
