The video is an audio recording of the Thumri Rang music festival which was organized by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in Kolkata in 2008. The recording has excerpts of performances by Murad Bano and Girija Devi. Murad Bano is a recognized classical vocalist. She received training in music from Ustad Munnawar Ali Khan of the Patiala gharana and from the legendary Begum Akhtar. In this performance she presents the dadra, 'Kahanawa Maan Le.' The second excerpt is a performance by the legendary singer of the Banaras gharana, Girija Devi. Besides thumri, Girija Devi mastered other vocal forms like the dadra, kajri, chaiti and khayal. In this recording excerpt, the artist performs the piece, 'Babul Mora Naihar Chooto Hi Jaaye' in Raga Bhairavi set to the Addha Tal. She is accompanied by Santosh Mishra on the sarangi, Gopal Mishra on the tabla and Rupashree Bhattacharya on the harmonium. Girija Devi has been honored with Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awards.
