The video is a recording of a saxophone performance by Kadri Gopalnath. The performance is accompanied by the mridangam and the Carnatic violin. Dr. Kadri Gopalnath (1949-2019) is recognized as a celebrated saxophonist and one of the pioneers of Carnatic music. He was born in the district of Dakshina Kannada. He was inspired to learn the saxophone when he heard it being played in the Mysore Palace. He learnt to play Carnatic music on the saxophone from N. Gopalakrishna Iyer. He had to make certain modifications to the western instrument in order to play Carnatic music. His unique fusion of the East and the West has inspired and impressed many musicians throughout the world. He has performed in many music festivals at the national and international stage. He has also participated in many important Jazz festivals around the world.
Recognizing the ongoing need to position itself for the digital future, Indian Culture is an initiative by the Ministry of Culture. A platform that hosts data of cultural relevance from various repositories and institutions all over India.
