The video is a presentation on the various folk traditions and dances of West Bengal.The different folk dances of Bengal are mainly performed during festive, ceremonial and religious events. The various tribes and ethnic groups of rural Bengal have their own distinctive folk arts which are associated with agricultural and mythological events.The martial dances typically depict events from great epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata which are performed around the year to mark various occasions at fairs, festivals and religious events. The folk traditions which are featured in the video include Baul songs, Gambhira, Gajan, Bolan,Chhau dance, Santhali dance, Mundari dance, Raibenshe, Lokhun Nritya, Jhumur, Natua, Nachni, Tusu songs, Dhal, Paika, Nachan Rene, Larai Lunge, Damphu Nritya among others. Some old and rare clippings from the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre's documentation library have been used in the video to show the dances in their most authentic forms.
