Description:

Bihu dance is characterized by quick steps and rapid hand movements. The dancers are attired in their traditional costumes and the dance is performed in a group of young men and women. The men play musical instruments like the dhol (double-headed drum), pepa (horn-pipes) and flutes while the young women usually dance in a circle with their hands placed above their hips with the palms facing outwards. The dancers sway to the songs of amorous nature and to the music, they bend forward from the waist and slowly adopt the typical Bihu dance stance of open shoulders and slightly parted legs. The dance soon picks up the pace as the musicians intensify the tempo and beat.
