The video is a documentary feature on the noted Bengali film and theatre actor Soumitra Chatterjee. The film looks at the illustrious life and career of the actor and includes scenes from the films Apur Sansar (1959), Jhinder Bandi (1968), Kony (1986) and Ekti Jiban (1988). It also includes interviews with the actor, his family members, directors and actors like Tapan Sinha, Mrinal Sen, Aparna Sen, Sharmila Tagore, Nasiruddin Shah and Manoj Mitra. Soumitra showed an early interest in acting and Pulu as he was affectionately called at home would perform skits at home. During his college years he came into close contact with the great thespian Sisir Kumar Bhaduri (1889-1959) who became a great inspiration for the young actor. His breakthrough role came when he was cast as Apu by Satyajit Ray in Apur Sansar. The film brought Soumitra fame and opportunity to star in fourteen Satyajit Ray films.
