Occupying the back aisle in Cave 17, this painting has numerous scenes which are grouped as per the location of the events and not the sequence of the narrative .
Prince Saudāsa was a result of the union between a human king and a lioness. After being crowned as the king, he develops a taste for human meat. He is banished from the kingdom and lives as a man-eating demon. One day he kidnaps a virtous king named Sutasoma. Sutasoma persuades Saudāsa to let him leave for his kingdom to fulfil one final act of charity. He promises to return to be eaten by the demon. Saudāsa agrees convinced Sutasoma will never return. But he does and this moves Saudāsa to give up his monstrous lifestyle and Sutasoma in return helps Saudāsa reclaim his kingdom.
