The widest painting ccupying the right aisle in Cave 17, this one is known for its distinct style and structure. Most of the painting is still intact, the narrative moves in various directions but is guided primarily by the location of the events. The left of the painting as well as the lower middle section is set on an island and the rest is based on a city-kingdom.
Siṃhala and other merchant-sailors are shipwrecked on an island, home to beautiful women. Once they realise that the women are man-eating rākṣasis, Siṃhala manages to escape from the island and return to his city. The rākṣasis follow him and wreck havoc in the kingdom by killing the royal family. Siṃhala is then crowned the king and he invades the island to defeat the rākṣasis.
