On the right aisle in Cave 17, there are a group of paintings based on stories of Bodhisatva in which he is born as an animal. In these stories, the animals display compassion and kindness towards humans.
Indra arrives disguised as a brahmin to test a devout hare. He asks the hare for food and the hare offers its own body. To immortalise the hare's legend, he graced the hare's image in his palace as well as on the moon's surface.
