There are only a few paintings at Ajanta with Indra as a central character. This one is painted at the end of the left aisle in Cave 17.


Story:

Even in the midst of a heated battle against the Asuras, Indra turns his chariot away to save the life of a few garuda chicks on a tree in the battlefield. But this compassionate act also helps him clinch victory.
