Standing Surya on chariot

Description: The god stands on a chariot drawn by seven horses. He holds a padma in his both hands. He wears necklace and other ornaments. On then top of the circular ring gandharvas with garlands are depicted. A couple is seen at lower portion on either side of the god. <br><br>Several literal works such as Vrathachudamani, Dharmasindhuvu, Madanarathnamu etc. mention the name and importance of Surya or Adithya. He has 52 names in Amarakosa. He rides the golden Saptaswa-rathamu and the only wheel has six petals remembering six seasons in a year. The names of 7 golden horses are Gayatri, Vishnuvu, Anushtappu, Jagati, Pankthi, Brihati and Ushnikku like chandassulu. The charioteer is Anoorudhu. Sanjna, Chaya, Padmini and Usha are the consorts of Surya and his daughter is Yamuna while his sons are Yama, Vaivaswatha, Sani and Aswanulu. He is the guru of Hanuman. People have been worshipping the god especially on Rathasapthami day.
