There are numerous answers to the question, what is a rare book? The traditional definition of a rare book is any book which has an enhanced value because its demand exceeds the supply, usually because of its importance, scarcity, age, condition, physical, and aesthetic properties, association, or subject matter. However, there is no clear-cut definition of what makes a book a rare book. Different libraries and booksellers employ different criteria to define a rarebook. The terms 'rare', 'antiquarian', and 'old' are not clearly defined or indeed distinguished and are used interchangeably to refer to such books.
